Your Deposits are Safe at the Credit Union
All credit union deposit accounts are federally insured and backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government. The National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) insures a person’s savings up to at least $250,000, with higher total coverage available if the member has a combination of individual, joint, trust, payable-on-death and other types of accounts.
The NCUSIF is administered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government that recently reported that the NCUSIF at mid-year remained strong. The NCUA also has setup a web site dedicated to explaining how your deposits are insured and this site has a “Share Insurance Estimator” tool.
The Web site address is www.ncua.gov/ShareInsurance/index.htm
